Point Guards: Allen Iverson vs. Baron Davis Iverson complained and complained, and now here is, replacing Mike Conley for the starting role at point guard. Iverson has been okay to say, averaging 12.3 points and 3.7 assists per game. He was good coming off the bench, but if he is able to put up bigger numbers at starter, maybe it won't be so bad. But he'll need to play aggressive on defense, as he'll be facing Baron Davis, who scored 25 points against the Warriors. Davis has been great lately, averaging 13.7 points and 7.5 assists per game. Davis needs to cover A.I. well now, because Iverson can make you look foolish and can put up some big shots over you. Advantage: Los Angeles Shooting Guard: O.J. Mayo vs. Eric Gordon Mayo has been putting up the numbers, with 19.7 points, 3.2 assists, and 4.7 rebounds per game. He's still being that all-around player people expected him to be. Meanwhile, Eric Gordon is nowhere near a Sophomore Slump, racking up 19.5 points, 3.7 assists, and 3.5 rebounds. Both of these guys are the same age and look to play tough against each other. Advantage: Memphis Small Forwards: Rudy Gay vs. Rasual Butler Rudy Gay continues to impress. After scoring 22 last night, Gay has been averaging 20.5 poins and 7.2 rebounds per game. Nice. Meanwhile, veteran Rasual Butler has been averaging 8.7 points, 2.3 rebounds, and 1.8 assists per game. Gay looks to take advantage of his skills over Butler, and I think he might have a big performance. Advantage: Memphis Power Forwards: Zach Randolph vs. Marcus Camby Z-Bo is the scorer while Camby is the boarder. Zach Randolph has been astonishing this season, registering 20.5 points and 10.5 rebounds per game. He leads the team in points almost every game this season and has been a complete monster. Marcus Camby is a guy the Clippers are counting on for the rebounds, and he's setting a good role of doing that with 10.3 points, 10.7 rebounds, and 2.3 blocks per game. Heck, this may be a season in which he might win Defensive Player of the Year again. But this matchup looks to be solid. Advantage: Los Angeles Centers: Marc Gasol vs. Chris Kaman Marc Gasol has been putting up the points and the rebounds, averaging over 16 points and about twelve rebounds per game. But Chris Kaman has been leading the Clippers in points, and is truly a complete beast right now, putting up over 22 points per game and ten rebounds. Kaman is looking at another great game as well as Gasol. These guys are evenly matched, and it's going to be a fight for the top with theset two solid centers. Advantage: Los Angeles
Bench Both of the benches look pretty good. The Grizzlies hope to play well with Mike Conley and Hasheem Thabeet. Meanwhile, Los Angeles will have to mainly count on Sebastian Telfair and Al Thornton on their side of the bench. Again, this another evenly matched part here, and I expect both of these guys to do well. Advantage: Memphis Other Commentary David's Memphis Grizzlies Blog |

The Grizzlies haven't gone off to a good start. With troubles surrounding around Allen Iverson, the Grizzlies are stuck at 1-5. Yesterday, things got worse after a loss to the Los Angeles Lakers, 114-98. But they're some positives for this season. Z-Bo continues to shine, and he scored 21 points with 15 rebounds yesterday. Rudy Gay continues to put up more than 20 points while O.J. Mayo lights up the court as well. Marc Gasol is getting the rebounds, too. But guess what? A.I. has been doing good as well off the bench. But can he manage handling the starting point guard role against the Clippers, even at his 34-years-of-age?
It's obvious that the Clippers have gone off to a better start than Memphis, at a record of 2-4, and that they topped the Warriors yesterday by a score of 118-90. And looky here, Chris Kaman us putting up the numbers, tallying 22 points and nine rebounds. Baron Davis is starting to connect with the team as well. Marcus Camby put up the boards with twelve that game. The Clippers look to improve their record to 3-4 as they host Memphis tonight at 10PM.
