I just received breaking news from the Memphis Commercial Appeal and Rotoworld. It is appeared the Memphis Grizzlies point guard Allen Iverson has left the team for personal reasons. It was reported that Iverson met with Michael Heisley last night after the loss to the Lakers and this morning with him. Iverson then went off to Atlanta. Why Atlanta? The Commercial Appeal states that is where he lives in the offseason. Iverson never did that much, only playing three games from the bench and going out with a hamstring injury. Iverson was expected to start tonight against the Clippers, according to ESPN and The Canadian Press. No source claims that he'll return. Iverson recently reached the 24,000 point mark. Last year with the Pistons, he didn't do that well, saying that it was the worst year of his career. Let's hope this season with the Grizzlies isn't either. Iverson has averaged 12.3 points per game this year. |

And I hope that whatever's happening in Atlanta is not something serious with a family member. If so, prayers are with them.
But his behavior after coming off the bench IN HIS FIRST GAME AFTER AN INJURY? Unacceptable. Not too bright. Maybe that's why no other team would sign him -- they knew he wouldn't just be patient, have the sense to shut up and be a good soldier. Or for Gods sake just WAIT a few more games to complain about coming off the bench.
But if this is how it's going to go down, better it happens now, early in the season. What would be even better is if we go on a 7-8 game winning streak.
I wish Allen luck. Hope we can trade him to a contending team if he doesn't want to do what Coach asks. Hope his story doesn't end this way. I'd love to see him get a ring. Seriously.
Man, this sucks.
That being said, I won't jump to any conclusions about his personal leave, even though I have to say that I am suspicious. I too wish him the best, and I would like to see him last a little longer with the team, and more importantly, be a part of the team as it begins to gel.
